IEA: datacenter-water 560→~1200 mld liter
«We estimate that global water consumption for data centres is currently around 560 billion litres per year, and this could rise to around 1200 billion litres per year in 2030 in the Base Case (Figure 5.27). Global water withdrawals for data centres show a similar steep increase to 2030. About two-thirds of the consumption in 2023 was associated with primary energy supply and electricity generation, a further one-quarter with direct cooling and the remainder for water used in semiconductor and microchip manufacturing.»

IEA 2025: China dominant refiner 19/20 minerals
IEA Global Critical Minerals Outlook 2025 stelt dat China the dominant refiner is for 19 of the 20 minerals analysed, met gemiddeld marktaandeel rond 70% — raffinageconcentratie, geen mijnbouw-alleen-claim.
«China is the dominant refiner for 19 of the 20 minerals analysed, holding an average market share of around 70%.»

«The average market share of the top three refining nations of key energy minerals rose from around 82% in 2020 to 86% in 2024 as some 90% of supply growth came from the top single supplier alone: Indonesia for nickel and China for cobalt, graphite and rare earths.»

«Currently, more than half of a broader group of energy-related minerals are subject to some form of export controls.»

AWS: 9,4 mld liter onttrokken; 22% in hoge stress
In 2025 onttrokken AWS’s leased, owned en shared datacenters wereldwijd 9,4 miljard liter water; 22% van de onttrekkingen (leased/owned) viel in regio’s met hoge of extreem hoge waterstress (WRI Aqueduct), 48% in lage stress.
«In 2025, AWS’s global leased, owned, and shared data centers withdrew 9.4 billion liters of water. In 2025, 48% of our total water withdrawals for our leased and owned data centers occurred in regions classified as low water stress, and 22% occurred in regions classified as high or extremely high water stress.»

The Dalles: Google $28,5 mln waterinfra + ASR-aquifer
«GOOGLE INFRASTRUCTURE AGREEMENT Google entered into an agreement with the City to complete additional projects that combined contributed to $28.5 million toward improvements to publicly owned infrastructure. Examples of projects included in this agreement include 2 new wells, 2 reservoirs, a pump station, and a sanitary sewer lift station. GOOGLE FINANCED A NEW AQUIFER STORAGE & RECOVERY WELL Google completed and fully funded the Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) system, transferring ownership to the City upon completion. This system pumps excess surface water into an underground aquifer, helping with summer demand by increasing storage. It boosts aquifer levels for healthier groundwater and improves water quality by storing treated surface water.»

Microsoft: zero-water cooling vermijdt >125 mln L/jr per DC
«Beginning in August 2024, Microsoft launched a new datacenter design that optimizes AI workloads and consumes zero water for cooling. By adopting chip-level cooling solutions, we can deliver precise temperature control without water evaporation. While water is still used for administrative purposes like restrooms and kitchens, this design will avoid the need for more than 125 million liters of water per year per datacenter.* […] Protecting local watersheds is an important part of this pledge—especially in areas where water stress is growing.»

USGS 2025: China leidend in geraffineerd kobalt
USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2025 (kobalt) noemt China the world’s leading producer of refined cobalt, met extra raffinagecapaciteit in dat jaar.
«China was the world’s leading producer of refined cobalt and increased metal refining capacity throughout the year.»
